How to Make Homemade Applesauce Easily

*this post contains affiliate links*

For the 4th Fall in a row I have made yummy apple sauce that has lasted me the rest of the year.

The two most important condiments in my mommy life would be my homemade applesauce & heinz ketchup.

Can’t live without either one!

My boys are super impatient when it comes to waiting for their food to cool down so I found that this applesauce can be added to most meals as a helpful cool it down condiment!

If apple sauce won’t work then ketchup will, gotta cover my basis.

How do I make homemade applesauce?

Call my mom over of course! So far I must admit to not having to make appl sauce on my own yet. Even thought my mom lives a province away she always manages to visit around making applesauce “season”!

But besides my mom (she is mine I don’t want to share) the next best tool…..{ok let me giggle a moment}…my mom’s not a “tool”….but the next best thing IS!

The Kitchen Tool called The Food Strainer and Sauce Maker helps making Homemade Applesauce a breeze.

I asked for this Kitchen Tool for my birthday a good 5 years ago and have been thrilled to use it ever since.

Making Cinnamon Applesauce is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

ONE – Boil the apples

TWO – Put them through the Strainer

THREE – Add cinnamon & sugar!

Really it is that easy….but since I like to talk I will elaborate Image may be NSFW.

The Best Super Simple Recipe for making Homemade Cinnamon Apple Sauce:

Ingredients:

Cinnamon

Sugar

Apples – ANY apples. I have used crab apples, not yet ripe apples (those may have turned my applesauce green but it still tasted good) & regular apples.

Before you start don’t forget to sterilize your canning jars and lids – I just through them through the dishwasher on a 12 minute rinse & steam cycle.

To make the applesauce start by boiling all the unpeeled apples, if you want them to boil faster then cut the apples in half.

When the apples have become soft use a mesh spoon to scoop the apples out of the pot and transfer them to the top of the Food Strainer & Sauce Maker. I hold a lid underneath the spoon as I move the apples over.

Depending on how much water you allow to transfer along with the apples into the Applesauce Maker that amount will convert into how runny your applesauce will become at the end. I like some water to go with the apples but just what is still dripping off the apples. That makes a consistency that I like.

Using your BEST EVER Apple Sauce Making Kitchen Tool:

Apples get put into the top – use the red stick to slowly mash them and push them down the funnel.

Crank the handle and *Presto* Applesauce comes out the one side but pushes the yucky stuff out the other side.

(Sometimes I will use a spatula to scrape along the mesh area where the good applesauce is coming out – it helps clear it keeping the applessauce easily coming.)

Make sure you have bowls in place to catch the goods!

Once you have a bowl full of applesauce add the sugar and cinnamon to your preferred taste.

I use about 3/4 cup sugar and 3 TBSP worth of cinnamon – I have a sweet tooth Image may be NSFW.

After Whisking it all together I do a taste test – add more sugar or cinnamon if needed and then start scooping that batch into canning jars!Image may be NSFW.

I still use the usual canning jars & lids.

First I sterilize them by throwing them through the dishwasher on a fast rinse & steam cycle.

Then once I am filling the jars I leave about an inch and a half of space to the top to keep some room for expansion.

When putting the lid on do not put it on tight. I tend to leave it a bit loose to also help with expansion.

Then throw them in your freezer…WAIT…don’t throw them….just a figure of speech ;P
