Back when my husband and I first thought of adoption in a serious manor I went on a knowledge hunt. I bought up A LOT of books on adoption and I have to say I found very few helpful resources at the time.

Why?

Because I was looking for something that didn’t exist. I was looking for a book like the kind written for pregnant women when they are waiting for their baby. There was nothing like it for waiting adoptive mothers.

I was so frustrated by this! I may not have found a book for me then, but I am CRAZY EXCITED to share with you the book I wish was written way back then.

Forever Mom: What to Expect When You’re Adopting – Book Review:

This book says it all in the title. Everything I wanted to read about is in this book!

Forever Mom Quote 1

It is not written in a technical style which makes it an easier read. Forever Mom is also peppered with beautiful adoption stories yet these stories don’t take away from the learning aspect, instead they are what help make this book such an easy read!

This is a book with Adoption Help for Christians which just warmed my mothering soul as I read it. Renewing my heart and encouraging me to parent each day anew by the Lords grace.

If you are not a Christian or are not adopting but fostering children instead I still recommend this book. The author (Mary Osten) has ten children and out of those children four daughters were born in Ethiopia and two sons were born in South Korea. Mary has an amazing amount of knowledge to share through this book. Forever Mom: What to Expect When You’re Adopting is full of so much information to help us as we care for our hurting children.

Forever Mom Quote 2

The first third of the book begins with adoption stories as well as insight on how to start the adoption process. Then Mary moves into helpful advice when it comes to bringing your child home as well as parenting them in their toddler ages. The last third of the book talks about the continued active parenting that needs to happen while the child continues to grow older.

My favorite chapter in the book was  Chapter 8: Beginning Again, at the Foot of the Cross. This chapter was full of information I needed to hear as I parent my children.

Forever Mom quote 3

So whether you are new to the adoption process or already in the thick of it I encourage you to pick up Mary Ostens book as it has some amazing adoption help for Christians as well as non-Christians. I really can not recommend the book Forever Mom: What to Expect When You’re Adopting enough. You will probably be seeing more quotes on my instagram or facebook feed coming from the book Forever Mom!
