Kirabo, A Uganda Adoption Story

It has been over 6 years since I have read a novel. It’s sad, but true!

I used to be an avid reader and LOVED reading fiction novels. But since Teo showed up in our lives my focus changed. My reading had a new focus, mainly “self help” parenting books and of course children’s books. I also switched to reading blogs since they were short topics I could get through with less interruptions.

But recently I was introduced to a book that tells the story of a new friend of mine. Her name is Tandela and she is our adoption agencies new Executive Director (I had the joy of getting to know her better while myself and a few other adoptive mothers planned a fundraiser for our non-profit agency).

KIRABO, A Journey of Faith, Love & Adoption – A Book Review

This book tells the story of Tandela’s journey towards adopting her son Mark.

It is written by her friend Kveta Rose and although it is a biography of sorts it is written in a novel format which made it much more of an enjoyable read.

When I picked up Kirabo, A Journey of Faith, Love & Adoption I could not put it back down. I read as if I didn’t have errands to run or children to deal with in the morning. I read till I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer and then picked it back up as soon as I woke up. This book is an adoption story like none other! Having adopted two boys I do know that each adoption story is it’s own personal story and no story is alike. But THIS story truly stands out of the crowd.

Tandela journeys to Uganda to spend some time volunteering in an orphanage and has NO IDEA what God has in store for her. As a single woman she follows God's promptings and eventually begins the process of adoption, not from her home country (where most adoptions would begin) but an adoption that originates in Uganda. That means having to deal with

As a single woman she follows God’s promptings and eventually begins the process of adoption, not from her home country (where most adoptions would begin) but an adoption that originates in Uganda. That means having to deal with everything on her own with no guidance from an adoption agency! Tandelas journey to adopt her son is a three year undertaking with many stressful moments throughout the whole process (talk about suspense!). Despite this long and difficult adoption journey Tandela’s trust in the one and only Almighty God shines through on every page. What an amazing adoption story.

I highly recommend that you to pick this book up, you will be encouraged by God’s faithfulness, Tandela’s obedience and a Uganda adoption story like none other!!

I will leave you with this beautiful quote from the book Kirabo:

Mark’s claim that he is my son will not be based on how much he looks like me but on the legal (adoption) papers that bind us together, for these papers contain a promise. There is nothing Mark can do to lose this status.
