Today’s Topic is “Anything Goes”, I chose to keep it within an adoption theme and share with you a new adoption book I have been introduced to.

The Child in Our Hearts, Adoption Book Review:

New Children's Adoption Book

When I first started my Adoption Blog I was under the impression that children’s adoption books were few and far between….but I was SOOOOOO wrong! I am amazed at how many adoption books have come my way and subsequently been read to my children, YAY for new adoption material!

This particular adoption book is simple in it’s illustrations and the story told which is a nice way to introduce adoption to a younger child. But the really cool part is that you can order this book in a few different varieties (single Mother or Father adoption? Want it written in Spanish?)

The Child in Our Hearts begins with a mother and father expressing how they long for a child but don’t have one in their home so they begin to look for their child. They look all over and end up at an adoption agency where a lady connects them with another man in another country. They fly to this man who brings them to a little child waiting for a home. Immediately they know this was the child they were looking for and once this child was ready they traveled on an airplane back home to be a family.

This book has a simple story line which would suit a young toddler well or a child that is working with English as a second language.

Some parts of the story confused my son as we read it. Since the parents were “looking” for their child (that was in their hearts) my son assumed the child had run away. Since my boys were adopted at birth they didn’t understand that some adoptions happen when the child is a bit older. This gave me a chance to explain that not all adoptions are the same. I believe this book will be loved by many families, especially if their adoption story is one of an “older” child adoption :)

Please join the Adoption Talk link up on the first and third Thursday of every month.

Anyone involved with the adoption triad or foster care in any way is welcome to join (even if you are just starting the process).

This linkup acts a little bit differently then most as we have a schedule of topics we will follow throughout the year. Feel free to save the below image for reference:

A few things to consider:

1) Be respectful of others. Adoption can be a sensitive subject, and opinions may differ from your own. Please be respectful to everyone.
2) Try to read and comment on at least one other post. The point of a link up is to mingle and meet other bloggers.
3) Feel free to link an old post. We know you may have already blogged about some of the topics on our schedule. If you would like to link something you have already written that is just fine.
4) We would still love to have an adoptee host. If you know of anyone PLEASE let one of the hosts know.
5) Follow Your Hosts. No need to follow everyone on everything, but make sure you follow in enough places that you’ll be reminded to link up.
