Are you a Christian Atheist?*this post contains affiliate links*

The other day I was reading a blog (oh how I WISH I remembered what it was called) and it had a title that said something like this:

Are you a CHRISTIAN ATHEIST?

Ummmm what?!?!

Reading those two words together were so abrasive and shocking to my senses.

I was offended, and near furious all at once. How dare someone create a term such as this.

Until I kept on reading and realized the writer was calling their readers out.

Am I a Christian Atheist? How do I live my life?

I am 100% Christian no doubt in my mind about that. I believe that Jesus came to this earth so save me, to heal my soul and to give me the gift of heaven in my future.

However, how am I treating the Lord as I live my life as a Christian?

Well, Sundays are Church Days for sure. But the rest of the week? Or even the rest of Sunday?

Am I living an Atheists Life? Have I become callous to the Lords calling on my heart?

These are the questions that swirled through my mind as I joined my tuesday bible study group.

Had I done my home work? Nope. Couldn’t find the time.

That day one of the women in our bible study group heard what I had to say along with the rest of us also agreeing that we needed to give the Lord more of our first fruits.

She said this:

“We need to begin to live life focused on Joy instead of Happiness”.

Huh?

Aren’t those the same thing? Joy & Happiness…yup I like them both.

But she went on to say that we CAN live an Atheist life as Christians content to be happy with the life we live.

But Joy is something we receive from God.

It’s like being happy with instant coffee having never tasted the real thing….once you taste what real coffee tastes like it is hard to go back to the instant powdered coffee (ok, perhaps I have become a tad bit of a coffee snob over my years ;P)

For real! I DO remember feeling joyful once upon a time.

Joy FILLED by my Lord Jesus Christ.

Are you a Christian Atheist?

Right now I am just happy, content. But God is stirring in my heart asking for a relationship again.

He wants so badly to give me the JOY I long for in my life.

I am tired of living an atheist life, I want to be bouncing off the walls full of JOY!

Are you with me?

Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. Psalm 47:1

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. Psalm 27:6

Turns out if you Google Christian Atheist you will come across a book called The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but Living As If He Doesn’t Exist.

I have not read it but I hope to (honest truth….I need to find it in an Audio book format to listen to while I drive since I rarely read books these days….Opening my Bible needs to come first).
